KUALA LUMPUR: AN MCA central committee member has alleged that deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai is the leader behind the shadowy third force widely credited with rejecting president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and his former deputy Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek at the Oct 10 extraordinary general meeting.
In a post on his blog at www.tilianker.blogspot.com, Datuk Ti Lian Ker said Liow wanted to take over the party's top post and used the group to manipulate and exploit supporters of Ong and Dr Chua, leading to the party's political crisis.
"It is morally and politically incorrect to hand over the leadership of the party to a third force.
"Its emergence shows a lack of political integrity and strength to face the challenges of the next general election," he wrote on Thursday.
He said Liow would not succeed in his efforts to take over the party as he was perceived by members as having orchestrated a revolt against Ong immediately after the EGM results were announced.
Similarly, Dr Chua's supporters could not accept Liow as the incoming president although olive branches and goodwill gestures had been extended to Dr Chua and his supporters.
"Dr Chua's supporters refused to work with or support Liow to be president as he is seen to be the 'evil' man responsible for the fall of their boss (Dr Chua)," Ti said.
Liow's move in leading 21 other CC members to openly disagree with Ong's call for a second EGM to let delegates decide on the need for a fresh election was not well received by members, who perceived his actions to be an act of betrayal.
It was also alleged that Liow and the CC jointly signed a letter demanding Ong's resignation.
Liow later clarified that the letter was for him to present the CC's views to Ong.
