Hurray for Great Love night
By SIMON KHOO
KUANTAN: The “Great Love” performance night organised by the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia was well received, judging from its attendance.
Held at the RTM complex here, the auditorium was packed with over 1,200 people from all walks of life.
The event was the third after runs in Muar and Port Klang to promote the Da Ai television station.
The foundation’s Kuantan centre coordinator Kong Siew Kuan said that Da Ai TV was a family channel that did not air violence and bloodshed.
She said the Taiwan-based station started telecasts in 1998.
Harmonious: Tzu Chi Foundation members performing at the event in Kuantan recently.
“With decreasing moral values and an increase in crime, TV plays an important role in promoting good values.
“The Da Ai drama series uses real-life stories to inspire people to walk the right path.
“The children’s programmes allow youngsters to see what suffering there is around the world so that they can treasure what they have,” she told The Star in an interview.
She said, through 13 satellites with 24-hour broadcasting, Da Ai TV could be viewed worldwide.
Kong said the station started operations in Indonesia last year and received a very positive response.
“Our aim is to promote good social values for the betterment of society,” she said, adding that there was a sign-language segment and an 86-year-old Tzu Chi commissioner and founding member would make a special appearance.
Former Teruntum assemblyman Datuk Ti Lian Ker was the guest-of-honour at the event.
Ti said the foundation was set up to assist mankind regardless of race and religion in times of disaster.
Among the performances were stories of real-life suffering and broadening of love towards less fortunate world citizens, he said.
He said the activities could help cultivate compassion in the younger generation and create a balanced society.http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2008/11/19/southneast/2527914&sec=southneast
(Da Ai in Mandarin means Great Love. It is a Taiwan TV Channel where the team of their shows touches on compassion and humanity. Tzu Chi organized the abovesaid event to promote love, compassion and humanity. All the flights , lodgings etc were arranged and RTM from Pusat gave them a bombshell just a few days before the event date. The Auditorium cannot be rented out to Persatuan Tzu Chi Buddha . At the eleventh hour, Tzu Chi couldn't find another alternative. After approaching the YB and Exco for help, the religious conotation disqualify them from renting the premises. How do you explain to our foreign friend and the public on the disapproval of the rental of the auditorium ? Because they are Buddhist?
I had to call the Minister of Information, Dato Ahmad Shabery Chik to explain that this Yayasan Tzu Chi is all about humanity and compassion similar to Yayasan Salam Malaysia. THANK GOD and THANK YOU! MINISTER of INFORMATION for using your good office to overrule administrative discrimination or narrow interpretation...
The Chinese community from all over Pahang and East Coast had the oppotunity to view a First Class Auditorium at their doorstep and some who came from Rompin, Triang etc were in awe of the state of art auditorium in Pahang. YB Menteri! You make it possible for them to be present. More importantly, you allow a night where the message of love, compassion, family and humanity was passed to many..the Night of Great Love !!)
TERIMA KASIH YB MENTERI DATO AHMAD SHABERY CHIK.
