MCA pushes for change

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA’s Reform Committee will focus on four main tasks as part of its thrust to push for change, said party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
Firstly, Ong said all MCA people representatives, whether they are MPs or senators, would be given tasks based on their strengths and areas of specialities.
“We want them to be more efficient in various areas including handling debates in the Dewan as well as public forums,” he said at a press conference after chairing the party’s central committee meeting at Wisma MCA here yesterday.
Ong, who is the coordinator of the Reform Committee, said it would study all MCA’s constituencies in depth, regardless of whether it won or lost in the 2004 and 2008 general elections.
“This will be a reference for the party to plan and organise strategies to further strengthen the people’s support.”
He said the committee would also organise political education and training for party members and leaders at all levels.
Finally, Ong said the party’s assets and membership should be organised and audited professionally, under a special team lead by Datuk Leong Tang Chong.
In his speech at the party’s 60th anniversary celebration on March 1, Ong said tackling economic woes, being proactive in mainstream politics and enhancing inter-ethnic relationships would be the three key thrusts in the party’s push for change.
On another matter, Ong said the central committee had accepted the party’s working paper on the proposals for privatised expressways.
“One of the suggestions is for the Government to acquire privatised expressways.
“We will raise the suggestion with the Federal Government, including the Cabinet. We want the matter to be solved for the benefit of the people.”
He said the party had also received feedback on the doubling of foreign workers’ levy from operators in various industries.
“We have noted their plight and problems, and will bring it to the Government.”
He said the party’s Langkawi project had been renamed the community education development bureau, headed by Wanita deputy chief Datuk Yu Chok Tow.
“The party has also set up a bureau to foster good relationships between the party and non-governmental organisations,” he said, adding that the bureau would be led by Datuk Ti Lian Ker.Thursday March 26, 2009

Pahang Boleh Bowling !

(Robson Thong from Pahang)

19th March, P.Jaya:

Malaysian youths dominated the Milo International Youth Boy's Open Masters finals of the Canon 32nd Malaysian International Open when Rodson Tong led a top 3 finishing with Aris Ardila and Muhammad Amin Razak in second and third. National youth from Sarawak, Aris Ardila set the early pace in the first two games of the 10-game finals with Perak's Muhammad Amin Razak in second, 19 pins adrift. But the lead was short-lived after Singapore's Basil Low, who scored the tournament's fourth perfect game, took over the running albeit only 4 pins ahead of Aris.

Two scintilating back-to-back games of 258 and 280 shot another national youth, Rodson Tong Juinn Chuan into the front of the pack with a margin of 53 pins trailed by the consistent Sarawakian, Aris. Rodson's lead came under threat when his team-mate, Aris shot a superb 279 in the eighth game to reduce the gap to just 8 pins. But Rodson kept his cool to fire home 244 and 220 in the last two games to come away victorious with a total of 2333.

"This is the sweetest win for me after being six years in the national youth squad," said the 19-year-old Rodson from Pahang. "I've done well in other tournaments but only managed seconds and thirds so I'll always cherish this win." "I kept telling myself not to get too excited like in the past and just to focus on continuing to make good shots. My coach reminded me not to turn my hand too much which is one of my bad habits.
Aris settled for second despite posting 220 and 214 in his last two games ending with 2295 while Muhammad Amin Razak gave Malaysia a 1-2-3 finish in third with 2255.
Well Done Robson!

MCA gugur Adun Teruntum

MCA leaders criticise magazine for not seeking their views

By LOONG MENG YEE

KUALA LUMPUR: Several MCA leaders are all riled up at being implicated by a Chinese weekly magazine over an alleged move to call for a party extraordinary general meeting (EGM) against the party leadership.

They denied being involved in such a move and criticised the magazine, Hao Wai Special Weekly, for not even bothering to seek their views.

Kuala Langat division chief Datuk Ei Kim Hock, who was named, said he had been asking the leadership to put aside their differences and unite to tackle the impact of the financial crisis.

“What EGM? What the community wants to see is MCA actively addressing the effects of the slowdown,” said the former Selangor MCA secretary and former Teluk Datuk state assemblyman.

He was commenting on a March 9 article in the magazine naming him among a group of 20 leaders – including a minister, central committee members and division leaders – who are allegedly trying to organise an EGM with the intention of passing a no-confidence motion against party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

Ei said he was party to initiating a press conference recently with a few other MCA leaders but the intention was to publicly urge Ong and his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek put aside their differences and start moving as a united team.

Central committee member Datuk Ti Lian Ker, also named in the report, said he was not aware of any plan to convene an EGM.

“The speculation is the work of unethical tabloid reporting. The magazine put my photo and name, but did not even bother to get my comments,” he said.

He added that if the party was united, there would not be any chance for such irresponsible reporting to cause damage.

Kuala Kangsar Youth MCA division chief Datuk Ling Hee Leong, asked about his name being in the list of those planning for the EGM, said: “For an EGM to be convened, it must fulfil the criteria of having logical reasons and enjoying the support of one-third of the delegates.”

Asked if he was party to the intention to hold an EGM, or whether he was wooed to participate in one, Ling said: “We are all logical people. If the logic is strong enough, I will support it.”

Meanwhile, former Selangor MCA chairman Datuk Ch’ng Toh Eng, who was not among those named in the article, said unsubstantiated reports were mischievous and urged party members to not fall prey to ill intentions against the party.

“The major parties in Barisan Nasional are perceived to be involved in in-fighting. This is the perception opportunists want to create so they have a chance to weaken the parties and maybe take over,” said Ch’ng, a former state executive council member.

Maths and Science In English..Education Politicized

Why bring up issue 6 years later? "Why is there a police report six years later... only after six years it (the policy) is being questioned on a constitutional basis, only after six years they have a gathering?" he asked.Hishammuddin was commenting on the demonstration and handing over of a memorandum protesting against the use of English in the teaching of Science and Mathematics in schools at Istana Negara yesterday.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is puzzled why only now, after six years, is the policy of teaching of Science and Mathematics in English being demonised. "Why is there a police report six years later..only after six years it (the policy) is beibg questioned on a constitutional basis..only after six years they have a gathering?"

Answer:
The opposition is spinning again. They are stirring-up the emotions of the Chauvinist , Extremist and the Nationalist.

Once again we are gonna suffer. Once again we are gonna fall to the demand of a group of aggressive minority in the hands of the silent majority.

We had closed the good traditions of convent and colonial schools that have over the years produced good all rounded leaders at all levels of the society.

We had sacrificed the middle with two extremes and at this very moment, we are paying the price of our earlier mistakes. We should be given a choice.

The poor must be given a choice. The rich can send their kids to international schools but the poor dropped out of schools at the secondary/ tertiary stage..

Issue:
We have problems and we will continue to have problems. The urban folks are in favor of a moderate approach in the interest of education. The opposition parties are being irresponsible when they inflame the people with racial radical emotions.

OF COURSE THEY HAVE THE NUMBERS.THEY HAVE THE ANGKATAN HEADED BY A PERSONALITY OR TWO .

OF COURSE THEY HAVE THE STREET PROTESTERS. WHY ALWAYS ON A FRIDAY? IS THERE A READY MADE MOB IN MALAYSIA?

i longed for the rational, critical , analytical and comprehensive thinking of my old school days...

Equal rights for all Malaysians, says Perlis ruler

Equal rights for all Malaysians, says Perlis ruler PDF Print E-mail

(New Straits Times) - The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Syed Jamalullail, yesterday took to task those propounding the "ketuanan Melayu" (Malay supremacy) policy, accusing them of using "narrow-minded ways to achieve personal objectives".

He said every Malaysian, irrespective of age, gender, social status or religion, enjoyed equal rights.

The ruler said some Malaysians were making a big issue of the "ketuanan Melayu" issue and asking that supremacy or rights be given only to a particular race.

"It is very unfortunate to see these self-interested parties raising sensitive issues which could dampen the spirits and hopes of millions of people. In Malaysia, every race is tuan," he said in his speech at the launching of a seminar on the Federal Constitution here. The seminar was jointly organised by the state government and the Biro Tatanegara.

The Raja of Perlis reminded everyone that no individual should be deprived of his rights and that sensitive issues should not be raised in a multi-racial country like Malaysia.

"Sensitive issues and disharmony in society will only bring harm to the country," he added.

He said after 51 years, there was an understanding between the royal houses, leaders of all races and political parties in the country on the multi-racial character of the nation.

"This understanding is referred to as a social contract. It is to ensure that every race lives in harmony. The rights of every individual and race cannot not be taken away and at the same time Islam will remain the official religion of the country."

The Raja of Perlis said the role of the Malay royalty should be upheld as they had played the most significant role in defending the rights of the people. He said it was the responsibility of the royalty to ensure that everyone lived in harmony.

"Today, many individuals redefine the social contract in the Federal Constitution in their own narrow-minded way for personal objectives.

"I believe that if everyone understands that every individual of any race, should not be deprived of their rights, then the efforts of certain parties who think that the supremacy or rights should only be given to a particular race can be stopped," he said.

The ruler hoped that the contents of the Federal Constitution will be clearly understood by all, including the leaders of political parties.

( Daulat Tuanku!

Hidup Raja Berperlembagaan! Daulat Tuanku!
